The ski areas
The valley has several separate ski areas linked by bus and train: Brévent-Flégère with sunny slopes facing Mont Blanc, the steep Grands Montets, family-friendly Balme and wooded Les Houches. With a guide, the famous Vallée Blanche descends about 20 km from the Aiguille du Midi.
Where to stay
- Chamonix centre — restaurants, shops and nightlife, with buses to every ski area.
- Argentière — closer to the Grands Montets, calmer and more alpine.
- Les Houches — quiet, family-friendly, with its own tree-lined ski area.
When to go
The season runs from December to April. January and February bring the best powder; March and April are ideal for the Vallée Blanche and long sunny days.
Getting there
Geneva airport is only about an hour away by road. Chamonix also has train stations on the Mont Blanc Express line, and the Mont Blanc Tunnel connects to Courmayeur in Italy.
